Arlingtonians for Upzoning Transparency (AfUT) and Arlingtonians for Our Sustainable Future (ASF) will co-sponsor a Reality Check Rally to tell the County Board that Arlington’s flawed Missing Middle Housing Plan is not ready for prime time. Experts will highlight the inconsistencies, lack of analysis, faulty data, unintended consequences and real impacts of the Plan that will accelerate gentrification, reducing Arlington’s diversity; displace middle-to low-income households, including seniors, persons with disabilities and renters; raise property values and taxes; result in loss of trees and greenspace; further overcrowd schools; and overload infrastructure and services.
The Rally will feature:
• John Vihstadt, former Arlington County Board member;
• Michael O’Grady, research economist with Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Urban and Regional Analysis and former research analyst for Arlington Economic Development;
• Brian Harner, former Arlington Planning Commission chair and architect;
• Elinor Schwartz, former Arlington Planning Commissioner and president of Elinor Schwartz and Associates, a commercial real estate consulting firm;
• Molly McKay, principal with Willdan Economic and Financial Consulting Services, specializing in real estate, who has consulted for Arlington County;
• Joanne Swain, mortgage loan specialist with First Savings Mortgage Corporation and more than 30 years’ experience;
• Kathy Rehill, realtor and ASF member, named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s best realtors;
• Jon Ware, attorney and ASF representative;
• David Gerk, attorney, AfUT member and father of young children; and
• Julie Lee, civic association president and founding member of AfUT.
