The Fight Continues!

One Survey Already Shows Arlington Residents Oppose the County’s Recently Adopted Missing Middle Housing (MMH) Zoning But Support Real Efforts to Create Affordable Housing

63% of Arlington Patch readers oppose the County Board’s MMH zoning decision; 65% of them think the new zoning will not create affordable housing; and 76% support creating more affordable housing in Arlington.

A second poll is running now. As of March 28 – Poll results indicate 66% disagree with the County Board vote.

FIRST: A huge thank you for your support. Because of your testimony, letters, signs, and more, the County Board backed off the most radical MMH options. Together, we were able to:

Eliminate 7- and 8-unit multiplexes

Increase the number of trees required per lot

Create a cap on the number of MMH buildings allowed per year for five years

Ensure some geographic distribution of MMH buildings

Eliminate the no on-site parking requirement options

BUT — the new MMH zoning is still unacceptable

AND — Careful tracking of the MMH zoning implementation is imperative. So is ensuring zoning is not changed to add back 8-plexes and allow even larger multi-family buildings

Elections Matter
Make the Right Decision

SECOND: Continue the fight now at the ballot box. Early in-person voting starts May 5 for the Democratic Primary to fill the County Board’s two vacant seats. Mail-in voting is available for the June 20 primary, which is open to ALL Arlington registered voters and requires no pledge about party affiliation.

Know where the candidates stand on the County’s MMH zoning

Susan Cunningham and Natalie Roy are the only candidates running in the primary who opposed the new MMH zoning.

Legal Challenge

THIRD: Virginia law allows zoning decisions to be challenged in court.
